Courses for Schools |

Since the start of formal timetabled lessons in January 2005, the DLC has taught some 600 children from 64 different primary schools across the East Riding of Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Cornwall, Coventry and Hull.
Children are brought together in a virtual classroom from as far away as Wilberfoss in the west to Skipsea in the east. In-service training is being delivered to teachers in their own schools as part of the 'Shaping the Future' course and as online support sessions
for teachers following conventional training.
As a result of this, both teachers and children are enjoying the convenience
of linking in from schools across the East Riding of Yorkshire area. The East Riding Adult Education service has successfully piloted lessons in Japanese
and French to pupils, some of whom are house bound. Local Authority employees have also
taken part in lunchtime French sessions.
East Riding Passenger Services have delivered basic training for school
bus monitors using broadcast sessions to the secondary schools. Looked-after children have also been taught in their homes.
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council has part-funded the writing of the
courses, so the lower charge to schools in the East Riding of Yorkshire
is to reflect the contribution that has already been made. The curriculum subject area of the resource is denoted so teachers and
pupils can find what they require quickly and easily.
