ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) for CPD

Do you want to learn more about how computers work? Do you use word-processors or presentation software to create resources for pupils? Do you want to be able to support pupils better when working in ICT lessons?

The DLC can offer the opportunity for staff in schools and colleges to further develop their skills in using computers, using Internet and email, and using Microsoft Office applications. Should you wish you can also prepare yourself for the European Computer Driving Licence qualification online, at a time and place to suit you.

The ECDL qualification tests a range of knowledge, skills and understanding in using a computer effectively, working with common office applications and using the Internet and e-mail. There are seven modules, each module requiring you to pass a test in order to achieve the full qualification. However, there is no requirement for you to take the qualification, and you could use the course materials to pick and choose those areas that you would like to develop for your own professional activities, working as and when you have time and at a pace to suit you.

Staff will need to have access to a computer with an Internet connection to log-on to our special website where all the learning materials are provided. The materials use Microsoft Office 2003 and Microsoft Windows XP as a basis for gaining the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for the ECDL exam. This online learning course is designed for people who already have a good familiarity with using computers in everyday life and do not require basic face-to-face support, but are looking to further their knowledge and possibly gain an industry-recognised qualification.

All the materials and activities are provided online. There is no face-to-face support, and tutor support will be given via email and online message boards. There is no limit on the amount of time you choose to study the materials or in what order. There are no deadlines to work towards, unless you wish to take the ECDL qualification. If you do wish to take the ECDL tests, then you will need to make arrangements with a local testing centre of your choice (the testing centre will make a charge for this). Further information on ECDL and what it covers can be found on the official ECDL website at http://www.ecdl.co.uk

The course is available for 30 weeks from the start date.

Cost is £120 per learner.
