Support for the professional development for teachers and support staff has been changing rapidly since the introduction of the
DfES Strategy in 1998.
Traditionally, continuing professional development has been delivered through attendance at in-service training courses and school
training events and by setting aside time to consider training materials and discussing curriculum initiatives.
Now, schools are drawing on the many different opportunities for CPD (Continuing Professional Development), including the use of leading teachers, Advanced Skills Teachers,
secondment etc.
Teachers need access to high quality training and development in order to help them in their vital role in raising standards in the
classroom.
As new demands are laid on teachers through the development of the curriculum so teachers must be supported in identifying the work
they will need to do to equip themselves to meet the challenge.
Continuing Professional Development is designed to be supportive of teachers in a changing world.
The DLC can offer courses for educators to meet their CPD requirements.
