Literacy Boosters for Y6
This course supports Level 3/4 children for KS2 SATs. Persuasive, narrative
and report writing are covered using aspects of word,
sentence and text level work.
The course runs for 14 sessions, each session lasts

Flights of Fancy for Gifted & Talented Y5 and Y6 An image 'Oscar and Alphonse' by Chris Van Allsburg
is used as a stimulus to writing a story. Discussion,
sharing of ideas and constructive criticism by peers
are all used to create a piece of original writing.
The course runs for 6 sessions, each lasting 45 minutes. Cost is £72.00 per pupil, £36.00 for pupils within

Flights of Adventure for Gifted & Talented Y5 and Y6 'The Roswell Incident'
This course extends non-fiction writing for Gifted and Talented pupils in Upper Key-stage 2.
It builds on Persuasive, Journalistic and Formal writing.
The course revolves around reading a series of online news and witness reports about the Roswell Incident.
What did happen in July 1947?
We will explore the question 'Is anybody out there?' The children will enhance their speaking and listening skills as we evaluate
all the evidence on extra terrestrial activities.
The course runs for 6 sessions, each lasting 45 minutes (with extra activities on the accompanying VLE).

ICT Courses
Internet Proficiency Broadcast for Upper KS2
This course shows children how to look after their personal information when using the Internet. Using fun activities and simulations we explore websites, chat rooms, using mobile phones and e-mail, whilst thinking about how to have fun online and stay safe at the same time.
The lessons are broadcast to the whole class using an interactive whiteboard or screen with speakers.

Following each broadcast a number of activities are provided online that the class teacher can use with their class during the week. The course makes use of some of the materials from the BECTa Internet Proficiency Scheme for KS2 children.
The seven lessons include: using technology to communicate, SMART thinking, personal information, using email safely, chatting with care, using mobile phones safely,and evaluating websites.
The session duration is 20 minutes for 7 weeks.
The cost of this course is £450.00. (£225 within the East Riding of Yorkshire)
Net Safety
Children are prepared for an online world and are shown
how to take control of their own personal information. The
lessons provide lots of helpful tips, advice and information
on how to stay safe as well as having fun on the Internet.
They will use instant messaging, create their own
websites, use e-mail and chat rooms, research their school
work and keep in touch with friends on their mobile
phones.

class, enabling them to practise their skills in a safe online
environment.
6 pre-recorded lessons for use with the whole class can be
accessed at times to suit the teacher.

Introduction to Spreadsheets for Y5 and Beyond
This course is also available as a broadcast.
The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to spreadsheets as a modelling tool. Learners will be aware of how to enter numbers, labels and simple formulae into a spreadsheet and to use the data to calculate totals. They will be introduced to spreadsheet software (Microsoft Excel) and will explore how changes in price and quantity can affect the total cost. The course is aimed at Year 5 children and matches the key knowledge, skills and understanding covered in the QCA ICT Unit 5d Introduction to Spreadsheets.
As an alternative, this course can be broadcast to the whole class on an Interactive whiteboard.
The session duration is 30 minutes lasting for 4 weeks.
The cost of this course is £32.00 per pupil (£16.00 within the East Riding). Alternatively a broadcast version is available at £260 per series of broadcasts (£130 in the East Riding of Yorkshire).

Who's in Control? for Year 5 and 6
This course is also available as a broadcast.
The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to using sensors
to control devices in everyday life. The course is
designed for children who have already had experience
of using Flowol© to control outputs with a control
box, and builds on work done in the Who’s In Control
course. The course aims to cover the basic taught
requirements of the QCA ICT Unit 6C (Control and Monitoring),
but schools should be aware that to meet the requirements
of the National Curriculum for ICT pupils should follow
up this course with work done using control equipment
in their own classrooms.
The course runs for 5 weeks, each session lasting
45 minutes. Cost is £60.00 per pupil, £30.00 for pupils within
the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Amazing Animated Animal Antics for Y5 and Y6 Gifted & Talented
The course is an exciting blend of online teaching and independent ICT work for gifted and talented children in art. The children will have
free access to the online 2D animation program Fluxtime Studio, which the children can access from home or school for up to two terms after
the course finishes. The course will show them how to apply their artistic skills to create sophisticated animated worlds of their own
making, working collaboratively with other children in the group.
The course runs for 6 weeks, each session lasting 45 minutes.
Cost is £73.00 per pupil. £37.00 for pupils within the East Riding of Yorkshire.
The cost includes an additional £1.00 for the Fluxtime licence which is available for 1 year.

series of lessons has been written to develop thinking

of Yorkshire.

Marvellous Maths 3 for Gifted & Talented Upper KS2
Due to popular demand, and following the big success of Marvellous Maths 1 and 2, a third series of lessons has been written.
These continue to add breadth and provide enrichment for gifted and talented children through a broader range of content, tasks
and resources, as recommended by the Primary Framework. Sign up early to avoid disappointment. Children do not necessarily need
to have completed Marvellous Maths 1 and 2 in order to participate on the course, but this would be an advantage.
The course duration is 6 weeks, with each session lasting for 45 minutes.
Cost is £72.00 per pupil, £36.00 for pupils within the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Numeracy Booster for Y6
Support is provided for children working at Level 3 to boost them to
Level 4 following the 3 part lesson of the NNS, using the Implications
for Teaching.
The course duration is 20 weeks, with each session lasting for 45 minutes.
(A selection of lessons can be purchased costing £12.00 (£6.00 EY) per lesson per pupil. The minimum purchase is 6 lessons.) Cost is £240.00 per pupil, £120.00 for pupils within the East Riding
of Yorkshire.
Rising Stars
This course aims to boost children who are already
achieving Level 4 in maths up to Level 5 following
the 3 part lesson of the NNS using the Implications
for Teaching.
The course runs for 14 sessions, each session lasting
45 minutes. Cost is £168.00 per pupil. £84.00 for pupils within
the East Riding of Yorkshire.
Thinking Maths for Y5 and Y6
Mathematical connections and generalisations are promoted. Children
grapple with the 'big ideas' in maths, rather than focussing on the
mastery of specific skills. They are encouraged to talk, listen, question
and debate their mathematical ideas.
The session duration is 45 minutes and the course duration is 12 weeks.

Special Educational Needs Courses
Success with Number for KS2 and EAL
Using models and images to develop underpinning number skills, covering basic concepts involved in understanding and using the four operations. This is then consolidated through a problem solving approach.
Week 1: Numbers, counting, place value, partitioning.
Week 2: Addition/subtraction.
Week 3: Multiplication/division.
Weeks 4 and 6: Applying knowledge and skills to solve mathematical problems.
Session duration: 30 minutes, 4 times a week. Course duration: 6 weeks.

Phonics Fun 2 Y5 and Y6
Updated course in light of The Rose Report recommendations.
A different way to present phonics for SEN children.
Children are introduced to both phonemes and graphemes. The course is aimed at children studying at phase 5. This is achieved by focusing on long vowel phonemes which are presented in a fun way. Sentence writing is developed as appropriate to the ability of the children.
This course is about long vowel phonemes, encouraging children to learn in a fun-filled way.
The course runs for 6 weeks, 4 times a week. Each
session lasts 25 minutes.

Basic English Support for Y5 - Y7
This course supports pupils who need to develop their basic English
skills. It includes phonics - alphabet recognition
and order, identification of phonemes, spelling strategies.
Common spelling patterns, identification of mis-spelt
words, sounding out and segmenting. Sentence level
- sentence construction, simple punctuation. Comprehension
- reading text for understanding.
The course runs twice weekly for 6 weeks. Each session
lasts for 30 minutes.
Cost is £96.00 per pupil. £48.00 for pupils within
the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Reading Fun for KS2 and EAL
This course is aimed at children reading at approximately Level 2/3 who read words but have little or no
understanding of the text. The course is designed to develop and consolidate basic skills for reading and
apply them in different contextual situations. Week 1 focuses on various skills and strategies needed for
reading. Weeks 2 to 4 give opportunities to experiment and apply knowledge.
